Named after the famous movie database, this will be a database of my DVD collection. This will also cover TV series.

Currently i have all movies burned away and listed in a database. But i need some sort of online system where i can search for movies via tags. For example say I’m in the mood to watch something and I dunno what the hell i wanna watch. I can type in “comedy” and it’ll bring up all comedies in my list, show a brief summary of each show, display a film cover or poster in a Coverflow format.

However i was thinking of bringing it one step further. Let’s just say thriller is too broad, i wanna watch something that gives me the gritty feeling of  “Batman: The Dark Knight”. I can just plug it in and it’ll recommend me something like “Twilight” or something (Ok Twilight might be a bad choice. I make bad choices. See that’s why i need some automatic system for this) Currently Tastekid can do that, maybe someday i can hook up to their API and use it for my system. Maybe it can pull ratings off Rottentomatoes, plot summaries from IMDB. The technology is definitely there, I’m just too lazy for now to implement it. Maybe grad year or something.
